Trying to define technical communication is always an adventure.
When asked to explain what we do, sometimes the best answer we can give is this:
We make things clear.
That's it. We make the world a better place by making it easier to understand.
Whether we use tools to amplify our words, apply style and design to present them, or utilize media to deliver them, we clarify the things in life and work that are hard to understand.
Yes, many of us we work in technical environments. We use technologies of all kinds. Some us use only paper and pens. Others work to translate words and meaning between languages. Some teach; others work hard for companies and organizations. And, important to us at Mercer, some are studying technical communication on the undergraduate and graduate level. But all of us communicate, and we do it clearly.
This blog is our effort to communicate our ideas -- clearly -- to you, our audience. Our purpose is to amplify the skills, strategies, and research in technical communication to expand our field. Our goal is for you to read our posts and realize that you understand something more clearly as a result.
Thank you for visiting Technical Communication at Mercer University!
