Macon Media Covers Fall Convocation

Mercer’s fall convocation, an annual tradition welcoming new and returning students to campus in Macon, garnered print and television coverage as the University kicked off the new year. The Macon Telegraph, 41 WMGT TV and Fox 24 TV were all on hand for the event.

Mercer’s New Public Safety Degree Highlighted

Mercer’s College of Continuing and Professional studies redesigned its criminal justice major, beginning this month, to include a focus on all aspects of public safety. The new public safety major earned coverage from The Macon Telegraph and praise from Macon Police Chief Mike Burns and Bibb County Sheriff Jerry Modena.

Mercer Alumna Nancy Grace’s Return to Macon Garners Story in Macon Paper

Mercer double graduate and TV news star Nancy Grace stopped in Macon on Aug. 22 for a book signing. In addition to greeting fans, Mercer President William D. Underwood stopped in to touched base with Grace, who is also a Mercer trustee. The event earned coverage in The Macon Telegraph.

The Macon Telegraph reported on Mercer’s recent ranking in the U.S. News & World Report’s guide to colleges. Mercer ranked in the top 10 among master’s institutions in the South for the 11th consecutive year.

Mercer School of Medicine Professor Weighs in on Health Care Reform Debate in Macon Paper

The Macon Telegraph turned to Dr. David Parish, professor and interim chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Mercer School of Medicine, for his analysis of the health care system and the proposed reform plan before congress. Medical School White Coat Ceremonies Draw TV Coverage

The School of Medicine held two White Coat Ceremonies to welcome its first-year medical students in Savannah and Macon. Both events drew coverage from local television news stations, with the ceremony in Macon on Saturday earning a story on 13 WMAZ and 13wmaz.com, and the ceremony in Savannah on Sunday garnering coverage on WTOC and wtoctv.com.
