College Hill Corridor Grant Makes Media Splash

The Macon media offered wall-to-wall coverage of the announcement of a new $5 million grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to the College Hill Corridor Commission - a joint Mercer-community alliance that aims to redevelop the area between the University and downtown Macon.

New Graduate Programs Focused on Environment Draw Coverage From Macon Paper

Two new programs at the School of Engineering earned front-page coverage in the May 8 edition of The Macon Telegraph. The School’s Master of Science in Engineering in environmental engineering and Master of Science in environmental systems will launch in the fall and are aimed at addressing the United States’ aging infrastructure using the latest advances in sustainable and eco-friendly technology.

Macon Paper Highlights Mercer Student Athletes for Work with Mercer On Mission

The Macon Telegraph featured student athletes and engineering students Stacey Condra and J.T. Odum on the front page of the Sport section on Sunday, May 7. The two, a softball and baseball player, respectively, are on the Mercer On Mission trip to Vietnam. They are part of a group of students that is in Vietnam to fit Mercer-designed, low-cost prosthetics to people who have lost legs to landmines and other left-over ordnance from the many conflicts in that country.

Medical Student’s Work with Cancer Patients Profiled by Macon Columnist

Macon Telegraph columnist Ed Grisamore profiled Mercer University Medical School student Seth Gregory, of Ball Ground, for his May 31 column. Gregory, a cancer survivor, has worked closely with young cancer patients at the Medical Center of Central Georgia and has raised money to help make the patients’ time in treatment better.

Mercer Economics Professors Call for Fed Independence in Op-Ed in Wall Street Journal

Dr. Scott Beaulier, economics chair, assistant professor and BB&T Distinguished Professor of Capitalism, and Dr. William “Skip” Mounts, interim dean of the Eugene W. Stetson School of Business and Economics, wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal on May 30. The article calls on the Obama Administration to reaffirm the independence of the U.S. Federal Reserve.

The article also garnered significant attention in the blogosphere, including at No. 7 ranking among the most influential blogs and articles of the day by Blogrunner.
