A mild earthquake in Central Georgia on April 4 sent the local media in search of an expert to discuss the event. 13 WMAZ TV turned to the expertise of Dr. Randall Peters, chair of the Department of Physics. Dr. Peters is the inventor of the world’s first digital seismograph, and his instrument recorded the event and its aftershocks.

Students from Beta Beta Beta biology honor society organized a “Science Day” for students from L.H. Williams Elementary School in Macon. The event introduced fifth-graders to science concepts and equipment they might not see in their curriculum. The event drew statewide radio coverage from Georgia Public Broadcasting’s “Georgia Gazette” program, as well as Macon media coverage from 13 WMAZ TV and 41 WMGT TV.

Dr. Philip T. McCreanor, an associate professor of environmental engineering, helped to educate viewers of 41 WMGT-TV in a segment the increasing scarcity of water and the need to conserve it.
