Associated Baptist Press Covers Caring for Creation

The Associated Baptist Press covered Mercer’s recent conference, “Caring for Creation: A Scientific and Theological Response.” The story focused on the presentations by Dr. David Gushee, Mercer’s Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics and Jonathan Merritt, author of the forthcoming book Green Like God, and their talks on swaying the evangelical Christian community to act in the care of God’s creation.

Mercer’s Caring for Creation Conference Drawing Media Buzz Ahead of Conference

Mercer’s groundbreaking conference on faith, science and the environment, “Caring for Creation: A Scientific and Theological Response,” begins Oct. 29, and concludes Oct. 31 with a green day of service. The conference, and its topic, caring for God’s Creation, are drawing a lot of buzz ahead of the event. In addition to stories in the 11th Hour Newspaper and The Cluster, a number of media outlets have picked up on it this week.

Mercer’s fall convocation, an annual tradition welcoming new and returning students to campus in Macon, garnered print and television coverage as the University kicked off the new year. The Macon Telegraph, 41 WMGT TV and Fox 24 TV were all on hand for the event.

Macon Commencement draws Media Coverage

Mercer’s Macon Commencement - which included 490 graduates of the College of Liberal Arts, School of Engineering, Stetson School of Business and Economics, Tift College of Education and Townsend School of Music - drew a capacity crowd of more than 2,700 family and well-wishers to the University Center. Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue delivered the commencement address and urged graduates to seek out new ways to serve others. Among the media outlets that covered the event were The Macon Telegraph, 13 WMAZ TV and Fox 24 TV.

Student’s Business Highlighted in Macon Paper

Senior Phillip Calderon launched his Mercer-focused laundry service this school year and has been cleaning up - in laundry and in business. Student Laundry 101 offers full service laundry to students and the business is doing well enough to garner the attention of Macon media, include The Macon Telegraph’s business section.

Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle’s Visit to the Medical School Draws a Crowd, and Media Attention

Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle visited the Mercer School of Medicine in Macon on Jan. 26 and drew a crowd of more than 100 medical students, faculty and staff. His visit also prompted coverage from the Macon media.

New York Times Features Mercer’s Bear Bikes in Story About College Bike Programs

Mercer’s Bear Bikes program, a free bike-loan program for students and faculty on the Macon campus, was featured in a story in The New York Times on Sunday, Oct. 19, about efforts at colleges across the country to develop a bike culture, moving away from cars to get around campus. Bear Bikes, which was founded last year on campus, has more than 60 bikes in its program.

New Mercer Siren Draws Media Attention for Test

An emergency siren installed on the Macon campus was tested for the first time Wednesday. Fox 24 and WMGT-TV video cameras were on hand for the test.
