Dick Vitale’s visit to Mercer on Oct. 12 continues to draw media attention. Sporting News magazine’s The Sporting Blog featured the YouTube video of Dick Vitale’s press conference, which he made ahead of his presentation to Mercer’s Executive Forum. In addition, Vitale conducted an interview with CBS Atlanta sports anchor Gil Tyree, which will be featured in the Atlanta market on Sunday, Oct. 25 on the program “Sportsline Sunday” at 11:30 p.m.

Dick Vitale, hall-of-fame commentator and “the voice of college basketball,” spoke at Mercer’s Executive Forum presented by BB&T on Oct. 12 ahead of basketball season. Vitale spoke in Atlanta and Macon at events co-sponsored by the Mercer Athletic Foundation. The events drew media attention in both Macon and Atlanta. The Forum also served to preview the Mercer basketball seasons, which officially begins on Oct. 16. Head Men’s Coach Bob Hoffman and Head Women’s Coach Janelle Jones got the crowds fired up at each event ahead of what should be an exciting season for each team.

Mercer’s men’s basketball team earned another road victory over an Alabama SEC school on Nov. 19, beating Auburn on the glass and on the scoreboard, just days after besting the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Bears 78-74 victory over the Tigers at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum keeps the team undefeated heading into Saturday’s sold-out homecoming match-up with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

The Mercer Men’s Basketball team took on the Tide of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and swept it back. The 72-69 victory on Nov. 16 garnered a 2:45 a.m. pep rally by more 100 students for the team’s triumphant return to campus that night, and media attention. Fox Sports columnist Jeff Goodman gave Mercer the national co-ranking of Mid-Major of the Week for the victory. The team also received votes for the Top 25 ranking and the Atlantic Sun named junior guard James Florence its first player of the week this season.
